Why the Switch? Our Philosophy of Time
Blue Moon Meadow Farm is home primarily to heritage and non-commercial breeds of livestock. Unlike modern commercial breeds, which have been selectively bred for high-speed production, our animals retain their traditional genetics and natural growth patterns. Because they aren’t bred to support rapid weight gain, they thrive on a more patient timeline. Standard diets are often designed for maximum speed to market. At Blue Moon Meadow Farm, we believe that nature shouldn’t be rushed.
We prefer the quality and depth of flavor that comes from fully matured animals and the satisfaction of knowing they are growing on their own time frame. Several years ago, we transitioned away from standard soy and corn-based feeds because we felt they pushed growth faster than the animals’ natural maturation rates. By working with a local mill, we’ve been able to develop a custom-milled blend of peanuts and milo that allows our livestock to grow at a steady, healthy pace that is more in line with our “slow-growth” approach.
Our Commitment to Quality
While we have intentionally minimized soy and corn exposure across our entire operation, we believe in full transparency. We do not claim to be “100% soy/corn free” because we cannot guarantee against incidental cross-contact at the mill, trace amounts in certain supplements, or the rare necessity of alternative feed during a supply emergency. However, our primary focus remains providing a high-quality, peanut-based diet that sets our farm apart.
