Nothing says holidays and winter like eggnog. Although there are many very good brands available in grocery stores, did you know it’s incredibly easy to make? It’s so easy that there is no reason to relegate it to the holidays!
**NOTE; this recipe calls for raw eggs. For a similar recipe using cooked eggs, check out the link on the bottom**
All you need are:
4 eggs, separated
2 cups milk
2 cups heavy cream, separated
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp nutmeg
Beat the egg whites in a large bown until they form soft peaks and set aside. Beat the egg yolks with the sugar until thickened, then pour into the bowl with the egg whites. Beat one cup of cream until it forms soft whipped cream, then place into the bowl with the yolks and whites. Add the remaining cup of cream and milk and sprinkle nutmeg over all. Using a spatula, gently combine all ingredients until combined. Add additional sugar and nutmeg if desired.
This recipe makes a rich and thick eggnog. It can be lightened by cutting back on the cream and replacing with equal amounts of milk, but the results will be thinner.
