Beekeeper’s Reward

When we harvest honey, we end up with beeswax soaked in honey. Since we harvest the beeswax as well, it’s vital to remove the honey, and we accomplish this by putting the wax in a large jar and covering it in bourbon or vodka. The alcohol quickly dissolves the majority of honey, leaving us with beeswax that doesn’t require as much cleaning.

And we are also left with bourbon or vodka that is sweetened with honey! We call it “Beekeeper’s Reward” and it is absolutely decadent. And, you don’t need honey-soaked beeswax to make it!! Simply drizzle honey into your favorite high-octane liquor and stir, adjusting to taste. We like our Beekeeper’s Reward a bit on the sweet side, like a liqueur, so I’ll sometimes add a bit of honey after draining the beeswax, but the beauty of this simple “recipe” is that you can make it exactly to your taste!
