We’ve been raising Nigerian Dwarf goats since 2015 when we purchased our first milk doe. We chose this small breed because of its diminutive size and reputation for rich, sweet milk. With only two of us, we didn’t need the larger quantities of milk that larger breeds produce, until we discovered the joys of cheesemaking. We added a Toggenberg doe to our herd and have bred her to our Nigerian Dwarf bucks to create “Mini Toggenbergs.” Although the Nigerian Dwarfs will always hold a place in our hearts, we are planning on transitioning to a larger “Mini” dairy breed because we are looking for more milk from fewer does.
